GMC Fitness Assessment

Global mobility condition assessment versailles

What is GMC?

Global Mobility Condition

Global Mobility Condition or GMC is an injury prevention method developed by the medical staff of the French national team. Installed in the world of rugby, this concept has gradually spread to other sports but also in companies.

The goal of the GMC is to first identify the different functional and postural disorders, and then to set up rehabilitation protocols that can be practiced directly by the patient or supervised by a coach or physical trainer.

The GMC method - Global Mobility Condition

Tests and protocols to optimize the patient's physical condition

The GMC tests

The GMC method consists of 20 tests divided into 4 groups:

  • Lower limb flexibility
  • Upper limb flexibility
  • Strength tests
  • Functional tests

Each test is scored as 1 if successful, or 0 if unsuccessful.

At the end of the test, the patient obtains a score out of 20.

Physical fitness score

The GMC method showed a link between the score and the risk of injury: the lower the score, the higher the risk of injury.

The GMC protocols

Once the tests have been done, the patient will be advised on the exercise protocols. They will be performed by the patient at a pace defined by the practitioner.
There are 5 protocols:

  • Overall relaxation
  • Basin
  • Postural trunk
  • Proprioception of the lower limbs
  • Sheathing
